A drone light show for Ski Town USA's next century
Steamboat Springs has been putting on a show longer than almost any town in Colorado. Winter Carnival has run for more than a century, and its signature nights, ski jumping under lights at Howelsen Hill, the lighted procession down the mountain, taught generations of locals that the best seat in town is anywhere you can see the hill after dark. A drone light show does not replace that tradition. It is the next chapter of it.
The geography does half the design work. Howelsen Hill faces the town like a stage faces a house, downtown gathers at its feet, and the Yampa Valley holds the sky still on winter evenings. Across the river, the resort’s base area brings built-in event infrastructure, and in summer the rodeo arena hands us a crowd already cheering. Formations here read against mountains, not empty horizon, and we choreograph for that from the first sketch.
Steamboat’s values fit the medium as well as its venues do. This is a ranching valley and a ski town in equal measure, and both halves care about the same thing: nothing falling on the land. A drone show leaves the snowpack, the river, and the summer range exactly as it found them, and the silence suits a town that still hears its elk.

Could a drone show be part of Winter Carnival?
It is hard to imagine a better fit. Winter Carnival has featured night spectacle at Howelsen Hill for generations, the lighted man, the jumps, the street events, and a choreographed drone show extends that exact tradition with a medium the carnival's founders could not have dreamed of. We would coordinate with the winter sports club and the city end to end.
Does the cold or the altitude limit a Steamboat show?
Both are planned for rather than suffered. Fleet performance is validated for elevation, batteries and crew procedures are winterized, and we do not fly in more than moderate snow or sustained winds of 26 mph or more. February nights in the Yampa Valley are often clear and still, carnival weather is frequently ideal show weather.
How much does a drone light show cost in Steamboat Springs?

How far ahead should we book a Steamboat show?
A few weeks can be workable in shoulder season, two months is the comfortable window, and 90 days suits sites needing layered coordination. For the Fourth of July, Winter Carnival, and New Year's dates, three to six months is the honest answer.
