Crested Butte is the last great holdout among Colorado’s ski towns, and its stubbornness is the point. This is the Wildflower Capital of Colorado, a town of protected meadows, a wooden main street on the National Register, and a calendar, Vinotok’s autumn bonfires notwithstanding, that celebrates the valley precisely by refusing to trash it. Any spectacle that wants a place here has to earn it on the town’s terms.
