The Mission Inn Festival of Lights has drawn December crowds downtown for decades, millions of bulbs, packed blocks, an audience trained by tradition to gather after dark and look up. A drone light show does not have to introduce itself here. It extends a habit the city already loves.
It also solves the problem every Southern California event now carries. Riverside County lives with red-flag warnings and dry hillsides, and every year the case for launching burning material over them gets harder to make. A choreographed sky delivers the spectacle with the risk removed entirely: nothing burns, nothing falls, and Mount Rubidoux’s slopes stay exactly as the evening found them, which is why fire country keeps adopting this medium first.
